You do not have to be technical. You do not have to be an engineer. You just need a coding agent.
If you are anything into technology like a lot of business owners are right now, you will be working with Claude or ChatGPT Codex to develop some of these automations on your own.
How you start
You open up Claude or Codex, which is ChatGPT’s version of Claude, and you just start learning. You just start prompting, asking it what to do.
The technical part of it is not that hard and is largely able to be done with just a laptop and your AI agent of choice.
I would recommend in our new age of AI that you have Claude or ChatGPT in front of you to help you walk through the technical questions and maybe help you brainstorm a little bit.
If you are using Claude Code, there is a very excellent skill called superpowers that you can install. It has a built in brainstorming function, and it makes sure that the AI has all the context required before it starts getting into this planning phase. And it does this by asking you a series of questions.
What a coding agent can build today
Creating big dashboards and complex systems is not an easy task. And the coding agents are getting there, but they are not there yet. However, there are a few small automations that you can do right now in one afternoon.
So what I would specifically do is set up a listener to listen for any new emails. So this listener is always running on your computer. So as long as your computer is on, it will be always running.
Claude will read the email, determine the priority of that email, and then it can actually ping you on Slack, ping you on Teams, or text you or email you individually.
For a job like invoice reminders, set up a scheduled task in Claude to run every day.
A coding agent or a no code tool
I would say the listener on your computer is a more technical and a little more crude version.
n8n is essentially a workflow flowchart no code platform. I think n8n here is great because you can have it always running on the cloud, and it is more reliable than having to rely on your computer to be on.
Do your first project yourself
I think you should experiment with AI first, get a sense of where it might be useful in your business. I think once you finish your first project, that will give you a lot of context that you will need to actually advise someone, or maybe your own team.
